I have always been a maker. I was a jeweler by trade until a very difficult pregnancy forced me to examine all aspects of what I put on and in my body; food, soap, lotions, shampoo, the laundry detergent we use. Once I began restructuring my habits in a way that worked with the cleanest greenest ingredients and materials I could find, it was clear as day that my hands were meant for more. I have spent 2 years devoting all of my extra time to learning about tallow skincare, botanicals and natural medicine. Every single product I make is thoughtfully produced in a way that is safe for even the youngest skin, and sustainable for the Earth we live on. While I will always produce and sell my jewelry, I want to be a part of this revolution that has led people to abandon products with lengthy labels and man-made chemicals in their ingredient list. I often encourage the folks I meet to try and make their own products, and offer instructions if they want them. No one has ever told me that a piece of jewelry I made helped them sleep at night, but the things I have made with the intention of healing have really helped people in ways that were unimaginable to me. I believe in this stuff, y’all! And I appreciate your time and willingness to provide a platform on which a can share it. I hope you will have me again!

Genki Skin Care is a handmade vegan skincare brand offering dessert-inspired body care, including body butters, lotions, body oils, perfume oils, lip care, and cuticle creams. I create handmade, new jewelry with refurbished vintage pieces from Italian antique markets that I personally hunt and make each year.

I only use real pearls and hand string them myself. My other items are bracelets, rings and earrings, all using Italian vintage coins and other vintage items.

I use many different techniques to create my art. I search for vintage/antique jewelry, that has basically been destroyed, and refurbish it so that it can be used in a modern jewelry piece again. I also find vintage items that are not jewelry and use them to create new pieces. For example, I will find old brass decorative elements on an antique wardrobe and cut/rework them into pendants for my modern jewelry creations.

Born and raised in the culinary hub of Pakistan, I developed an interest in cooking specialty savory foods at home. However, I did not have much interest in baking sweets and desserts. I came to the US to join my husband almost two decades ago. His career took the family from the US east coast to Abu Dhabi, and then back to Richmond, TX.
It was in Abu Dhabi that my young 6 years old daughter became obsessed with baking shows on the Food Network that intrigued her little mind about questions like: incorporating blueberries in a vanilla cake recipe, or what would happen if you add more baking powder to a recipe etc.

I was not a baker myself at that time, but that didn’t stop me from trying to learn in order to satisfy my little one’s curiosity. What was initially started as a Mother-daughter bonding experience, later turned out to be a great learning tool for me as I was able to elevate my level of understanding and comfort with baking concepts. Inspired by Ace of Cakes baker Duff Goldman, my daughter and I began testing recipes and trying new things in their home kitchen. That was when I fell in love with baking, despite still claiming that I do not have a sweet tooth of my own.

After a few years of experimenting and perfecting my recipes in my own kitchen, I decided to open M’s Cakes & Bakes in 2017. I now provide a wide variety of desserts, from custom cakes of all sizes to French pastries. I am currently serving my customers around the Richmond and greater Houston area.

I started The Ei8ht in Houston for the moment right before you turn the page — when something is ending and you’re not sure yet what’s next. My practice is heavily influenced by childhood memories learning how to shepherd my family’s small farm. The characters in the work use humor and play to memorialize the animal’s spirits that once lived there. Using clay fired to cone 5, I use hand building techniques to make sculptural forms and wheel throwing techniques to create functional ware. The carved details are embellished with under glazes, and then clear coated with a gloss finish.
